A position sensor is an electronic device that can detect the movement or position of an object and convert the information into readable signals. They can be divided into two main catagories based on the types of output signals. One is position switch and the other is displacement sensor, for similar purposes.
A position switch is used to detect whether an object has reached the pre-set position, which output the switching value to reflect the final status. The position switches can be used in the position detection of machine tools, modules, workpieces and workbenches. Also, they can be applied in the signal detection of elevators for floor setting, speed regulating, elevator door controls etc.
A displacement sensor can acquire the continuous position change of a target object, which is different from the mechanism of position switches.
